Why a new soft seating line?

In the post Corona era, the need for flexibility in the office has taken on a new dimension. Instead of being a place where people routinely spend time, the office has now become a place where only certain tasks are performed.

The new purpose of the office is to provide inspiration and strengthen cultural ties: learning, meeting clients and colleagues and stimulating creativity and innovation.

With the Clark, Studio, Cabin and Elements collections, Conceptual already has a comprehensive range that meets those needs.

Because of the weight and size of the modules however, these are less suitable for organisations that need to be able to respond effectively to ever-faster changes in the outside world and inside their own organisation.

They want to use inspiring but quickly adaptable furnishing elements in an agile working environment.

This consideration was the starting point for the development of a new collection with following main criteria in the design brief:

– inspiring design

– visible and tangible comfort

– flexibility

– modularity

– mobility weight saving

– durability

ABOUT

About Chorus

The CHORUS project was launched in December 2021 in collaboration with creative director and industrial designer Jérôme Gauthier.

In designing the seating modules, he was inspired by the cosiness and softness of down duvets and oversized cushions, expressing a desire for comfort not only felt in use but also visible in design.

This was concretely translated into a construction principle based on metal tube frames covered with elastic bands and finished with an upholstered folded cover with integrated loose seat and back cushions.

By abandoning the traditional construction method of wooden carcasses covered with cold foam and stitched fabric, we were able not only to make major weight savings but also to create an entirely sustainable product with removable and washable covers that can easily be refurbished (new covers) or dismantled and recycled at the end of its life cycle.

The seating modules are available in 4 versions: with low, medium or high back or without backrest. Armrests and side panels are provided in the same heights.

By basing these elements on a square 640 × 640 mm module and by combining them with different types of bases (1-seater, 2-seater and 3-seater) and via an ingenious tool-free clip system, an extremely flexible furnishing system is created.

The collection consists of three sub-families:

– ‘Lobby’ with wooden legs

– ‘Work’ with metal legs without castors

– ‘Agile’ with metal legs and braked castors.

It is important to note that the collection is modular and that individual components can be reconfigured at will according to the user’s ever-changing spatial needs
