Conceptual grew out of a conviction: furniture should never impose itself on a space, or on the person using it. Quite the opposite. Furniture adapts to how people live and work and to the way we meet each other, and how pleasant and comfortable that can be. That is what we set out to do.
For us, furniture is far more than just a piece of furniture. Conceptual's furniture moves with its surroundings. They connect without dominating, offer comfort without being heavy-handed, and create privacy without anyone having to shut a door.
That conviction has been our foundation from the very start. It is a vision we have kept building on ever since. Conceptual turns workplaces and living environments, schools, hospitality venues and public buildings into spaces where focus, comfort and connection come together.
Our conviction carries us confidently into the future. Function, comfort and design are not separate qualities. They are one and the same thing. Furniture that makes sense, feels wonderful, and belongs naturally in professional spaces that want to give users somewhere good to be.
Meet the designers
Conceptual works exclusively with designers who understand that good furniture starts with understanding what people need from it. Who know that a seat where you talk something over with a colleague or a client has to meet different requirements than a seat where you sit and wait.
JEROME GAUTHIER
Creative Director & Designer
Jérôme Gauthier graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsAD) in Paris and has been working as a designer from his own studio since 2000. Over the years, he has collaborated with a wide range of clients, including craftspeople, industrial companies, research organisations, publishers, and both private and public institutions.
His approach is characterised by a professional practice that he has developed and refined over time: attentive, purposeful, meticulous and deeply human. His credo sums it up aptly: “Listen to better respond to the client's needs, seek meaning, understand to persuade, and feel to confirm.”
CONCEPTUAL
Design Team
The Conceptual Design Team combines the creativity, technical expertise and years of experience of the people behind Conceptual. Collections developed under this name stem from a shared vision of furniture that naturally brings together function, comfort and design.
Functionality stands for ease of use, clarity and tranquility. Every design is thoughtfully constructed so that it works intuitively and effortlessly blends into the living or working environment. Comfort revolves around the user's well-being: furniture that supports, invites and contributes to a pleasant experience, day in, day out. Design gives each piece character, with attention to form, proportion, material and detail.
DIRK RUTTEN
Designer
Born in 1970 in the Netherlands, he began his art & design education at the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 1988 and graduated in 1999 from the Utrecht School of the Arts as a product designer. In the period in between, he studied in various countries abroad and obtained his Fine Arts degree in 1993. In 1999, he started his independent design studio in the Netherlands and built up a network with various companies all over the world.
